Structure of stratospheric intrusions into the troposphere

Article Abstract:

The structures of stratospheric intrusions into the troposphere have been determined in greater detail. Observational data from satellites and weather prediction model data show that these intrusion are mostly either stretched-out structures around 2,000 kilometers long or comparatively slim structures about 200 kilometers long. The intrusions may help determine daily weather patterns and probably accomplish the bulk of net stratospheric-to-tropospheric movement of air.

Contribution of stratospheric cooling to satellite-inferred tropospheric temperature trends

Article Abstract:

The stratospheric contribution to Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU) channel 2 temperatures is quantified with the help of MSU channel 4. The tropospheric warming is ~1.6 times the surface warming.

Detection of stratospheric ozone intrusions by windprofiler radars

Article Abstract:

The data obtained from windprofiler radar that could provide insight into the possibility of ozone intrusion and tropopause motions related to stratosphere-troposphere transport is detailed.
