Survival times of anomalous melt inclusions from element diffusion in olivine and chromite

Article Abstract:

The fluxes of rare-earth elements through olivine and chromite by lattice diffusion are very fast at magnetic temperatures to re-equilibrate completely the rare-earth-elements patterns of trapped melt inclusions in times. The chemical isolation of incompatible elements in olivine- and chromite-hosted melt inclusions is not valid and hence re-evaluation is required for the interpretation that anomalous melt inclusions represent preserved samples of unmodified mantle melts.

Stability of hydrous melt at the base of the Earth's upper mantle

Article Abstract:

A data is presented constraining the density of hydrous basaltic melt under pressure to examine the stability of melt above the 410-km discontinuity. The hydrous magma formed by partial melting above the 410-km discontinuity may indeed be gravitationally stable, thereby supporting the idea that low-velocity or high-attentuation regions just above the mantle transition zone may result from the presence of melt.

Ultrafast superheating and melting of bulk ice

Article Abstract:

An analysis has shown that by exciting the OH stretching mode of water, it is possible to superheat ice. It is described that when using an ice sample at an initial temperature of 270K, an average temperature rise of 20 plusmn 2K that persists over the monitored time interval of 250 ps without melting is observed.
