Synaptic computation

Article Abstract:

The effect of a signal transmitted synaptically can vary enormously, depending on the recent history of activity at either or both sides of the synapse, and such variations can last from milliseconds to months. Experimental and theoretical approaches to the problem of synaptic computation are beginning to put neurons and synapses on a more equal footing about their roles in neutral computation.

Synaptic depression in the localization of sound

Article Abstract:

Synaptic depression in neurons in the nucleus magnocellularis appears to be essential to temporal coincidence detection, according to researchers in the US. Experiments with chicks indicate that synatpic depression preserves interaural time-delay information, allowing the chick to localize the origin of sounds. d

An SCF-like ubiquitin ligase complex that controls presynaptic differentiation

Article Abstract:

The identification of FSN-1, a novel F-box protein that is required in presynaptic neurons for the restriction of synapses in C-elegans, is reported. This neuron-specific, SCF-like complex provides a localized signal to attenuate presynaptic differentiation
