Systems biology approaches identify ATF3 as a negative regulator of toll-like receptor 4

Article Abstract:

A comprehensive set of transcriptomic data derived from Toll-like receptor (TLR)-activated macrophages was analyzed to identify a prominent group of genes that appear to be regulated by activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), which is a member of the CREB/ATF family of transcription factors. It was observed that ATF3 is itself induced by lipopolysaccharide, which seems to regulate TLR-simulated inflammatory responses, as part of a negative-feedback loop.

Toll gates for pathogen selection

Article Abstract:

Research by D. M. Underhill and others indicates into TLR2 and the TLR4 mammalian Toll-like receptors indicates that just as in the Drosophila melanogaster, there are two different receptors which differentiate between microbial pathogens or products of them. TLR2 plays a major role in responses to microbial pathogen such as Gram-positive bacteria and TRL4 participates in the recognition of lipopolysaccharide and Gram-negative bacteria.
