Tbx5 and Tbx4 genes determine the wing/leg identity of limb buds

Article Abstract:

Genes are expressed equally and in the same pattern in the fore and hindlimbs, but develop into distinct structures. T-box genes Tbx5 and Tbx4 are however expressed differently in chick wing (Tbx5) and leg (Tbx4) buds. The optomotor blind gene is involved in the transdetermination of Drosophila wing and leg imaginal discs. It is believed that Tbx5 and Tbx4 may be involved in determining limb identity. The Pitx1 gene, encoding a bicoid-type homeodomain transcription factor expressed in leg buds, may be another candidate.

The sliding filament at 50

Article Abstract:

The impact of the early work, and later developments in understanding the molecular mechanisms is discussed. The works of Andrew Huxely and Rolf Niedergerke, which reported measurements of the optically dense 'A-bands' in intact fibers from striated (skeletal) muscle are presented.

TRIC channels are essential for [Ca.sup.2} handling in intracellular stores

Article Abstract:

The study conducted to examine the contribution of trimeric intracellular cation (TRIC) channels to [Ca.sup.2} signalling in skeletal muscle by using osmotic stress to induce [Ca.sup.2} sparks is presented.
