Teaching conservation effectively: a lesson from life-history strategies

Article Abstract:

Teaching wildlife conservation in elementary schools can help create greater environmental awareness. Having conservation practices in place, supported by government policy, is important to achieving ecological goals. However, this approach should be supplemented by an educated public that has sufficient knowledge to understand the policies and make any necessary behavioral changes.

Conservation implications of dietary dilution from debris ingestion: sublethal effects in post-hatchling loggerhead sea turtles

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the sublethal effects of the consumption of anthropogenic debris, such as pollution, by loggerhead sea turtles. Topics addressed include the nutrient losses suffered by the turtles, their limited capability to compensate for this dietary dilution, and the resulting effects of decreased energy on loggerhead hatchlings.

Conservation and toxicology: integrating the disciplines

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the shared goals of conservation biologists and environmental toxicologists, focusing on the benefits of integrating the two disciplines. Topics addressed include environmental contamination, population viability analysis, and research efforts that acknowledge human intervention in the environment.
