The case for helping Mexico - now

Article Abstract:

The financial crisis prevailing in Mexico that appears to threaten free trade in the Western Hemisphere should be resolved if the US decides to sanction loan guarantees for the $40 billion required by Mexico. Political upheavals in Mexico have led to the mismanagement of economy, causing a rise in domestic debt. Failure of the US to extend help will disrupt the American Free Trade Agreement and reduce its influence in Latin America.

Future fitness and helping in social queues

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to test experimentally whether variation in helping effort is driven primarily by variation in the costs of helping in order to show that individuals work less hard when they stand to lose more future fitness through working. It was found that variation in the costs associated with helping is the major determinant of helping effort, although helping provides significant indirect fitness benefits.

Social status and sex

Article Abstract:

The Trivers-Willard hypothesis is used to explain sex-ratios of parents among elites. Social status can directly affect the reproductive success of parents as compared to the population average. A wide variance can be observed among males because high status results in above average reproductive success while low status males would have considerably low reproductive success. The oppste trend occurs in females.
