The effect of snowmobile trails on coyote movements within lynx home ranges

Article Abstract:

A study assessing whether compacted snowmobile trails directly affected competitive interactions between lynx and coyotes is illustrated. Results showed that behavioral adaptations allowed coyotes to travel and forage in deep-snow environments despite their relatively high foot-load.

Variation in male reproductive success in a wild population of reindeer

Article Abstract:

The variance in male mating success in a wild reindeer population with natural adult sex ratio is examined in order to test the assumption that was assessed. Findings show the importance of maintaining a reasonable proportion of young and adult males in the population.

Behavior responses of wild reindeer to direct provocation by a snowmobile or skier

Article Abstract:

Fright-flight times and lengths are quantified for reindeer disturbed by either skiers or snowmobiles in Norway, then converted into energy expenditures. Implications for the impact of such disturbances on overall reindeer health are discussed.
