The effectiveness of the best linear unbiased prediction of beef sires using field data collected from small farms

Article Abstract:

The Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP) of beef sires was evaluated using field data from small farms in Japan. The effectiveness of genetic prediction using the sire-maternal grandsire mixed model was found to give an unbiased prediction of one-half of the true breeding value of a sire and one-fourth of the true breeding value of the maternal grandsire. These results indicate that BLUP can predict offspring performance from data taken from small scale farms.

Animal model for genetic evaluation of multibreed data

Article Abstract:

Animal model and reduced animal model formulations for mixed model procedures were presented to determine simultaneously animals of diverse genetic composition using heterogeneous genetic and environmental variances. It was shown that the animal model and reduced animal model forms of equation can decrease data loss and permit comparisons which cannot be conducted with the use of single breed models.

Simple and rapid inversion of additive relationship matrices incoporating parental uncertainty

Article Abstract:

A simple and rapid algorithm in identifying animal pedigree in multiple-sire groups complicated byparental uncertainty was developed. The algorithm calculates the inverse numerator relationship matrix under uncertain parenthood. It can also be applied to the inbreeeding and uncertainty of parenthood on both paternal and maternal sides of pedigree.
