The impact of diving on rocky sublittoral communities: a case study of a bryozoan population

Article Abstract:

Diving affects the density of the colonial bryozoan Pentapora fascialis, according to a study of two benthic habitats, vertical walls and boulders, in a marine reserve off Spain's northeastern coast. It was unclear how the size of colonies was affected. A trend toward more cryptic positions was also found. The impact of diving was more pronounced on boulders than on walls. Recovery seems to take place slowly and with difficulty for such sublittoral benthic communities after the disturbances associated with diving.

Proportions of native and introduced brown trout in adjacent fished and unfished Spanish rivers

Article Abstract:

Brown trout from a hatchery seem to be more susceptible to angling than native fish in a study of heavily fished sites and adjacent protected and unprotected sites in northeastern Spain. Lower levels of hatchery genes were found in fished populations than in protected populations, although some hybridization and introgression were found in each sample. The evidence suggests that stocking has not been an effective method of enhancing the native population in heavily fished areas.

Response time of wetland biodiversity to road construction on adjacent lands

Article Abstract:

Results indicate that the effect of road construction on wetland biodiversity will not be discernible for decades in some taxa than others due to anthropogenic stress.
