The promise of proteomics

Article Abstract:

There has been little progress so far in proteomics, if defined as the investigation of many proteins at the same time in order to identify the function of one restricted state of a cell. There are technical barriers to advances in proteomics, along with a lack of people skilled in bioinformatics. Furthermore, it will never be possible to identify a single human proteome, as the proteome will differ significantly between individuals and within individuals during their lifetime. Against this background, it is unclear whether funding agencies should be investing heavily in a global strategy at this stage.

Issues are presented concerning the development of a solid-state proton conductor which uses CsHSO4 as the electrolyte and which is stable when operating between 150- and 160-degrees Centigrade. The benefits of this fuel cell are discussed.

Research is presented concerning the electrochemical performance of a fuel cell operating between 150-160 degrees Centigrade in a H2/O2 configuration. The construction of the cell from a CsHSO4 electrolyte membrane is discussed.
