Turning back the harmful red tide

Article Abstract:

There is considerable debate among scientists about the nature and causes of the recent growth in harmful algal blooms. However, it may be possible to control or manage some harmful algal blooms cost-effectively and without causing environmental damage. One potential approach involves treating blooms with flocculents that scavenge particles from sea water and transport them to bottom sediments. There are also good prospects for biological control of harmful algal blooms.
