Turnover rates of fall-migrating pectoral sandpipers in the lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley

Article Abstract:

The population size of the migratory birds can be estimated by the length of time spent at migratory stopovers and estimating the total number of birds passing through the site. The stopover duration for 106 radiomarked pectoral sandpipers in the lower Mississippi River Alluvial Valley during migrations in 2001 and 2002 is estimated for the purpose.

Evidence of recent population increases in common eiders breeding in Labrador

Article Abstract:

The Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) in conjunction with the Labrador Inuit Association (LIA), initiated surveys on the Labrador coast to collect information to estimate breeding eider population trends. It is suggested that hunting is the main factor causing the decline in Greenland, where eiders are subjected to unsustainable harvest.
