Twenty-six years of green turtle nesting at Tortuguero, Costa Rica: an encouraging trend

Article Abstract:

The green turtle population that nests at Tortuguero, Costa Rica, is the largest in the Atlantic. A study of the turtles' nesting emergences was started in 1971 and showed an increase of nesting into the 1980s. After an interruption, the increase continued through 1996. With careful management the Caribbean green turtle population can continue to increase.

Monitoring mammal populations in Costa Rican protected areas under different hunting restrictions

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that game laws have an impact on hunting behavior, and can therefore affect biodiversity levels for species. Data obtained from Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve and Corcovado National Park from 1990 demonstrate that species preferred by hunters but inadequately protected show significant declines.
