Two-electron dissociation of single molecules by atomic manipulation at room temperature

Article Abstract:

A two-electron mechanism that couples vibrational excitation and dissociative electron attachment steps used to dissociate single molecules by atomic manipulation at room temperature is presented. The final destination of the chlorine daughter atoms are mapped and it is found that their radial and angular distributions depend on the tunneling current and hence on the excitation rate.

Structure of a complex between a voltage-gated calcium channel beta-subunit and an alpha-subunit domain

Article Abstract:

An essential voltage-gated calcium channels (Ca(sub v)s) intracellular protein, the beta-subunit, binds a conserved domain known as the alpha-interaction domain, AID between transmembrane domains I and II. The structures represent the first high- resolution view and provide an important step towards understanding the detailed molecular mechanism models for Cavs function.

Water-driven structure transformation in nanoparticles at room temperature

Article Abstract:

A nanoparticle system that undergoes structural changes in response to changes in the surface environment rather than particle size is described. The structure and reactivity of nanoparticles at planetary surfaces, in interplanetary dust and in the biosphere, depend on both particle size and the nature of surrounding molecules.
