Understanding the role of sink patches in source-sink metapopulations: Reed Warbler in an agricultural landscape

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that habitat quality and size are important factors for Reed Warbler populations in agricultural areas. Warbler abundance was positively correlated with habitat spatial cohesion, while sinks, or patches of marginal habitat, affected populations depending on their distance from sources, or patches of high-quality habitat.

Demographic Limitations of the Ability of Habitat Restoration to Rescue Declining Populations

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that habitat restoration must be initiated before the vulnerability threshold is reached for certain species, using migratory songbirds as an illustration. This demonstrates that demographic factors may be more important than amount of habitat available for conservation of certain species.

How Corridors Reduce Indigo Bunting Nest Success

Article Abstract:

Habitat corridors connecting fragments were found to increase indigo bunting nest predation as compared to unconnected fragments, via edge effects brought about via corridor additions.
