The use of full-time volunteers and interns by natural resource professionals

Article Abstract:

The natural-resource profession relies on volunteers and interns to carry out research, management, and conservation activities and these full-time positions are filled by aspiring natural resource professionals with workplace experience. The widespread use of volunteers and interns to compensate for budget shortfalls does more harm than good to the profession.

Death Rides the Forest: Perceptions of Fire, Land Use, and Ecological Restoration of Western Forests

Article Abstract:

The article examines fire as an important component of ecological function, much less harmful than land-use policies that have produced significant changes to ecosystem composition and structure. Suggestions for restoration policies include a role for fire regimes achieved either naturally or via prescribed burning.
