Step into the cybercity

Article Abstract:

Amsterdam's Digital City, which was initially a three-month experiment offering free access to digital information and the Internet, has proved extremely successful and has now been in operation for a year. It now has 10,000 'residents' and around 3,000 visitors a day. Users can visit a range of shops, take part in discussion groups, access the city archives, download an electronic novel and communicate with politicians, among other services, and the system has also attracted foreigners, who are allowed to register as residents.

Yohkoh basks in sunlight

Article Abstract:

Data on the Sun's corona which was obtained by Japan's Yohkoh satellite was discussed. The satellite was launched in Aug 1991 and carries a battery of X-ray instruments to image the Sun. The state of the corona is controlled by the magnetic field structures generated by the outward transfer of energy from nuclear fusion reactions in the Sun's core via convection. The data obtained by Yohkoh is expected to yield valuable information about the Sun's corona and its underlying magnetic field structures.
