Death and myth: new books on Roman sarcophagi
Article Abstract:
Seven books dealing with a wide range of research on Roman Imperial-period sarcophagi are analyzed. These include 'The So-Called Peleus and Thetis Sarcophagus in the Villa Albani,' 'Romische Grabreliefs un Sarkophage auf den Kykladen,' 'Roman Children's Sarcophagi: Their Decoration and Social Significance,' 'Die Stadtromischen Eroten-Sarkophage 2: Weinlese- und Ernteszenen' and 'Die Stadtromischen Eroten-Sarkophage 3: Zirkusrennen und verwandte Darstellungen.' Some of these books also also provide information on the use of Greek myths on Roman Sarcophagi.

Barriers, barracks, and beyond: remarks on some current Roman military studies

Four books about Roman military studies at the end of the 2nd millennium are analyzed. These books are 'Roman Frontier Studies, 1995,' 'Das romische Alenkastell Bricianae in Wesisenburg I. Bay. Die Grabungen von 1890 bis 1990,' 'Der romische Limes in Osterreich: Fuhrer zu den archaologischen Denkmalern' and 'Recherches sur les fortifications lineaires romaines.' These works also consist of several excavation finds at old military sites and installations.

Sorting out Roman architecture

The books 'L'Architecture Romaine du Debut du III Siecle Av. J.-C. A La Fin Du Haut-Empire 1: Les Monuments Publics,' by Pierre Gros and 'The Forum of Trajan in Rome: A Study of the Monuments 1-3,' by James E. Packer examined Roman public architecture. The books discussed typological schemes using illustrations and index entries. They also analyzed a number of investigations and restorations conducted on Roman monuments.
