The Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, OH, is displaying a set of works by the woodcarver Elijah Pierce. The works date from the early 20th century and highlight Pierce's skill in carving figurative reliefs spanning secular and religious themes. The exhibition also features an educator's workshop, photographs and films of the artist and classes on folk art appreciation.

The Art of Nellie Mae Rowe: Ninety-Nine and a Half Won't Do

A traveling exhibition of the work of African-American folk artist Nellie Mae Brown is discussed. The exhibition of 90 works debuted at the Museum of American Folk Art, with an itinerary including the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the African American Museum in Dallas.

La sirena encantadora: the mermaid in Mexican folk art and legend
Article Abstract:
The Natural History Museum of the University of Oregon organized an exhibit of Mexican folk art centering on the image of the mermaid. The exhibit features pottery metal sculpture, masks, paintings and other artifacts accompanied by texts of folklore from Oaxaca, Guerrero and Michoacan.
