Life and death in a Maya war zone
Article Abstract:
Discoveries made inside a Yaxuna pyramid in Yucatan revealed a violent upheaval in Maya rulership. The remains inside a burial chamber were at first believed to be sacrificial victims, but analysis of their clothing, accoutrements and accessories showed them to be members of a royal family. Other archaeological finds suggest that Coba warriors had seized Yaxuna and converted it into an outpost.
