Article Abstract:
The engine house where John Brown ended his raid on Harpers Ferry on October 16, 1859, has been moved and dismantled. It finally became a historic site (Harpers Ferry National Historical Park) in 1955. The brick structure, measuring 22 feet by 34 feet, is built near its original location in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. John Brown and his group of slave protesters gained control of this armory with the intention of arming themselves to overthrow slavery.
