Tale of two Troys
Article Abstract:
Founders of the Friends of Troy, an organization to raise money for excavations of the ancient city in Western Turkey, sought support among the residents of its namesake, Troy, OH. No one knows who decided to name the Ohio city. According to a local historian, Homer was 'in the intellectual air' when the city was founded in 1807. The archaeologists who spoke about ancient Troy in 1993 brought Homer back once again into the intellectual air of the Ohio city.
