Afghanistan's most famous archaeologist, Zemaryalai Tarzi, has unearthed the elusive 'sleeping' or 'reclining' Buddha of Bamiyan, described by a 7th-century Chinese monk visiting the valley. Tarzi feels that the discovery would signal the country's cultural resilience and possible resurgence.
