A breath of air: a fresh design in the heart of grand New York building

Article Abstract:

Himmel/Bonner Architects were commissioned to redesign the Playboy publishing headquarters in Crown Building, Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York, which consisted of a lobby, reception area and two offices on different floors. Himmel/Bonner opened up the levels to what felt like an integrated space by removing part of the ground floor to show the basement and building a walkway above a gallery and cafe below.

We're not in Kansas anymore: U.S. design firms venture abroad

Article Abstract:

Interior design firms are venturing abroad as a result of the growing interdependence of world economies. American design companies, in particular, are following their clients to new markets which serve as buffers to economic difficulties at home and in Asia. At the same time, working abroad spurs growth and greater creativity due to the challenges that intense competition and new projects bring.

Color collision: hip clothing meets its match in a bold design

Article Abstract:

Boogies's a clothing store and restaurant, makes use of bold design to maximise sales. Colors are bright and striking and clash intentionally. Angles are sharp and a cool halogen quartz light with a warm high-pressure sodium lamp combine to show the true colours of the clothes. The restaurant area is also bright, but is a little more subdued than the retail area.
