Newspapers have a tendency to use business terms that are both confusing and misleading. One such term is right-sizing, which describes the termination of rank-and-file employees as a necessary strategy to improve the newspaper's profit margins. Another abused word in the newspaper industry is empowerment, which means delegation of authority to enable ordinary employees to participate in organizational decision making.
