Back to the future: What one document from 1980 can tell us about how we make newspapers today
Article Abstract:
A mysterious document, probably of the 1980s, containing information about pagination specifications for newspapers is studied to see whether the functions mentioned there are accurate or not and if yes, to what extent. As per the document, page makeup and copy editing are two tasks that can be performed by one individual and it is found that the requirements laid out in the 1980s describe the way many newspapers work in the present day and the predictions made are very accurate, however, the ease of use described in it has taken over twenty years to materialize.
