Best student design '99
Article Abstract:
Journalism students at Santa Ana College in California and at Northwestern University won first-place awards in the 1999 competition sponsored by the Society for News Design. There were 645 entries in over 12 divisions for this contest.

Article Abstract:
The key to the implementation of The Boston Globe Magazine's design was a strong team of creative, visual people. The design of the 1980's and 1990's in the magazine reflected the mood of the times, and is still fresh and creative.

The Ball State Daily News in the United States became the first student paper to be named World's Best in 1997. The editor in chief and art director felt that the Daily News was the ultimate laboratory for a journalism student.
