Children's hospital

Article Abstract:

The newly-designed Connecticut Children's Medical Center looks like a child's toy box on the outside while its interiors are a jumble of bright colors. Seeking to deviate from the traditional design of hospitals, The Hillier Group, in partnership with Karlsberger Companies, utilized the sciences of light and space to guide people through the public spaces. The design team also used the concepts of 'prospect' and 'refuge,' which state that pleasurable settings include both a place to see and a place of concealment.
