House of correction

A medium-security rehabilitation and correctional facility for people with mental and substance abuse problems was built in Washington, D.C. The building is meant to serve as a therapeutic environment for inmates preparing to reenter society, and contains a mental health facility, a substance abuse facility, a medical facility and a diagnostic housing facility. The designers, STV/Silver and Siskind, used economical materials such as vinyl floor tiles, wood and upholstery to minimize the project's cost.

Beach house

Article Abstract:

Architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen simplified the forms used in designing a home on the shore of the Outer Banks, NC. The house has been divided into smaller white gabled pavilions which retain a wide view of the surrounding scenery. The owner specified that the old oak trees should be unharmed, and the architect used concrete piles to support the house without causing destruction on the oaks and the dunes.
