IALD reflects ... the future of lighting design
Article Abstract:
Three members of the International Assn of Lighting Design agree that education of design professionals and the general public is critical to the future of lighting design. Philip Gabriel, James Benya and Hayden McKay emphasize the need for a broader understanding of light and its role in architecture and interior design. To this end, they are calling on the lighting industry to make concerted efforts to educate not only the design professionals but also the public in the form of research, seminars, continuing education courses and other educational programs.

Article Abstract:
Lighting designers and manufacturers need to band together to ensure that good architectural lighting is successfully implemented. It is not enough that the designer comes up with an appropriate lighting design, as manufacturers also need to provide clear guidelines for lighting specifications and to have better control over distribution and sales of their products. Only through the coordinated efforts of lighting designers and manufacturers will product design and quality standards be maintained and appreciation of good lighting among consumers attained.
