M.C. Ginsberg Objects of Art
Article Abstract:
Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck Interior Architecture Ltd received the award of Best Showroom/Exhibit Space during the 19th Annual Interiors Awards Competition for impressively renovating the M.C. Ginsberg Objects of Art store. The West Des Moines, IA-based firm transformed the 3,000-sq-ft store into a serene, less flashy environment that encourages exploration. A neutral yet sophisticated interior was created with the use of plain materials such as unpainted cement boards and maple plywood. A circular structure of translucent plastic panels gives the impression of a gallery-within-a-gallery.

Used oil-field pipes were used as interior and exterior angled steel struts to stabilize perimeter walls and the roof was installed in a manner which showed how the building was assembled. The office also features concrete finish options such as sandblasting, stained concrete floor slabs and poured-in-place cement using plywood molds.
