Design and the economy

Article Abstract:

Design is an indispensable part of the search for economic success, and the next generation of investors and managers must be taught to be design conscious. This was one of the messages arising from the Royal Society of Arts' series of related lectures and seminars entitled Manufacturing, Wealth Creation and the Economy. Although design fixes around 80% of ultimate manufacturing costs, many firms do not appreciate the significance of design. Themes including investor practices, funding sources, and long-termism against short-termism were discussed during the seminars.
