Refreshing the parts; Leadership in the race to develop ever more sophisticated bicycle components has passed inexorably from Europe to Japan
Article Abstract:
Shimano, a Japanese bicycle component manufacturer, dominates the European market for bicycle parts. This is despite the fact that the important components were invented in France and Italy. The reason for Shimano's success is its investment in research and development, the constant change in design which is passed off as innovation and that it is prepared to take risks. Campagnolo, the largest European manufacturer creates well designed quality components, yet they are more expensive that Shimano's.
