Sybils by Vanderbyl

Article Abstract:

Hickory Business Furniture's display showroom at the Pacific Design Center entailed the design of a cost-efficient removable space which allows for flexibility of movement. Vanderbyl Design toyed with the company's 'new tradition' identity and translated it into design elements which combined classical art with contemporary display methods. The use of suspended canvas with a reproduction of details of Michaelangelo's Sistine chapel painting, white canvas divisions to form circular rooms and eight-point gold star aceents on the black rear wall created an elegant, flexible and classical display area.

Traditional vision

Article Abstract:

Hickory Business Furniture contracted Michael Vanderbyl to undertake the creation of a new image for the furniture maker. Vanderbyl sought to maintain the company's reputation for classical, traditional furniture by integrating the company's logo into a new graphic design. The showroom designs were built around the same image with black and white checkered floors and the inclusion of stylized architectural elements such as columns and chair railings. The transfromation of the company's image was completed with the upgrading of its furniture designs from reproductions to contemporary pieces.
