Watching your back
Article Abstract:
Designers should check whether the selected electrical equipment for their projects meet the Underwriters Laboratories/American National Standards Institute (UL/ANSI) standards. Otherwise, they may face lawsuits in cases wherethe non-approved electrical fixtures caused fire damages to their structures. Other accepted testing laboratories include Electronic Testing Labs and Independent Testing Labs but most designers recognize the importance of specifying UL-tested equipment. Those who select non-UL fixtures should ensure that this will not invalidate the building owner's insurance policy.

Fabricating fixtures from plastic
Article Abstract:
Lighting fixtures made of thermoplastics have several advantages over fixtures fabricated from metal. Thermoplastic lighting fixtures have high heat tolerances and can be molded in one piece. Lesser components result in lower production costs and lower tolerances. Moreover, thermoplastics are useful in the development of smaller, higher-wattage lightings that are lighter and more duarbel. Lighter fixtures also cut down on handling and shipping costs. However, the per piece cost of thermoplastic tooling is significantly higher than metal tooling.
