West by southwest

Article Abstract:

The design of Kachina Grill evokes the southwestern spirit by incorporating design elements which symbolize aspects of the Hopi Indian territory. Designer David Kellen believed that a design theme need not be too literal in its translation and the Kachina Grill illustrates this concept. Thus, the ceiling represents the desert with its sky blue ceiling tile grids, midnight blue exposed ductwork and spotlights situated just above the grid. The location and shapes of the walls create a space wherein one can move freely while the bar area with its multi-level red soffit allude to a mesa sunset.

Article Abstract:

Restaurateurs Wolfgang Puck and Barbara Lazaroff contracted Adam D Tihany International to design the 20,000-sq-ft Spago Chicago. The 170-seat main dining room and the 120-seat cafe were situated on the main level while the private dining room and the cigar lounge were located upstairs. The cafe and the main dining room each contains an open megakitchen where the chefs can be viewed.
