Dance notation and cultural agency: a meditation spurred by choreo-graphics
Article Abstract:
Dance notation is an ongoing process of balance between universality and specificity. While universality provides a common language for choreographers to use, specificity addresses the unique forms of physical artistic expression. Use of these two different types reveals a society's underlying aesthetic interpretation, whether structured and holistic or ambiguous and individualistic.
