Evidence suggests that the combination of imagery and conditioning practices might yield positive results for dancers in both performance and alignment. This idea was tested an a test for assessing dancers' alignment and movement was developed. A conditioning system for dancers synthesizing the practices of Fitt, Pilates, Rommett and Solomon and an imagery system for dancers integrating and synthesizing the work of Bartenieff, Dowd and Sweigard was developed. Participation motives in relation to background and involvement variables among Finnish non-professional dancers

Article Abstract:

Non-professional dancers in Finland have been found to vary in their motivations for participating in this social outlet. Folk, ballroom, ballet and modern dancers all vary in background and behavior variables, and can affect participation motives. No simple cause-effect relationships have emerged as the result of this study, although it has been determined that dancers who seek a career in dance require widespread social support and understanding.
