The issue of complete human transformation is central to Russia's history, and photographs of two transsexuals at a hospital in Moscow undergoing sex change operations are suggestive of this history. Russian society is undergoing a transformation, and many people are finding that they have no place in this new society. The society is more tolerant of Aza and Alexandra, but their village in Kazakhstan failed to accept their transformation.

An amateur photographer recounts his first attempts at photography in the 1950s, taking photographs of his children and learning his art through trial and error. His experience editing a magazine, conveying emotions to readers with photographs, is discussed. His choice of photography as a suitable hobby for his remaining years, and the emotions that resurfaced through his art, are discussed.

A photographer discusses his belief that inanimate objects have place and value. The use of rocks in his choice of photographic subjects is discussed, as is the influence of Native American philosophy on his thinking. He discusses his feeling that he cannot make his pictures in any other area than the Southwestern US.
