Margret Craver Withers: In service of silver

Article Abstract:

Margret Craver Withers helped to lead America's metalsmiths from the traditionalist constraints of the early 20th century into the individualism of mid-20the century Modernism. Craver's tools, hallmarks, notes and correspondence became part of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. including membership in the Master Gold and Silversmith Guild of Sweden, fellowship in the American Crafts Council and the Council's Gold Medal for Excellence, and a lifetime achievement award from the Women's Caucus for Art.

Jonathan Adler: The making of a (new) modern master

Article Abstract:

Jonathan Adler, a ceramist, decorator and a style guru, holds a singular position in the ongoing evolution of modern design. Some of his creations are discussed such as high-fired stoneware with high-gloss glaze, lantern candlesticks, and model bottles, which make overt reference to those of earlier designers, particularly late-modernist practitioners of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

The Gropius House in the United States built by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius and his wife Ise, was one of the first local examples of modern architecture which has revolutionized architectural thinking in Europe. Walter and Ise Gropius' guest book, is a contribution by several guests, speaking about their experiences in the house.
