Next wave dance

Article Abstract:

Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival has presented a plethora of fine dance companies, including Ballet Frankfurt, New York City's concluding celebration of the fiftieth Anniversary of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and two repertory programs performed by the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, spread out over four months of 2003. Frankfurt's four new William Forsythe dances that were not seen before in the US and Merce Cunningham's Split Sides are reviewed.

Catch a wave

Article Abstract:

The most out of the ordinary and futuristic work at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's latest Next Wave Festival was 'California', which was choreographed by John Jasperse who co-designed the lighting with Joe Levasseur and the costume concept with Katy Pyle. Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal returned to BAM and her latest offering 'For the Children of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' has both new and old theatrical conventions.

Montpellier at twenty

Article Abstract:

The author describes the range of works at the 20th International Dance Festival in Montpellier, France. Performances included dance companies from 10 countries and ranged from neoclassical ballets to a unique performance piece by Vera Mantero.
