All the President's programmers
Article Abstract:
The American presidential campaign uses large computer databases to shape policy and provide details of opponents' statements. They are used for statistics, raising funds and targetting specific groups by cross referencing voter registration lists with census data. The data advises the candidate what not to say, leading to a content free campaign. The computer selects focus groups of 10-15 people whose collective judgement is shown instantaneously on television in a continuous graph.
