The GT America regional automobile racing class began when Improved Touring Sports championship driver Steve Archer started a quest for an American car faster than his modified Datsun. The GT America class makes use of American cars with V-8 engines. About 16 have been built toward the end of 1994.

Roger Hickey of Huntington Beach, CA, is in the business of manufacturing motorless gravity racing cars and hopes to increase interest in the sport. The racers are 108 inches long with an extremely low center of gravity. A car kit costs about $2,000.
