Racers on the runways
Article Abstract:
The Strategic Air Command of the US Air Force helped to popularize automobile racing in 1952. General Curtis Emerson LeMay offered SAC runways to the Sports Car Club of America for racing. The first competition took place at Elkhart, WI. The race was better organized and much safer than previous racing events.
