Off-road car race Ivan Stewart won the Baja 1000 race in 1998. Stewart's career as a professional driver started in 1973 with the Baja 500, which he won driving solo. The Baja 1000 has always been a tough race both to stage and to drive. And the future of the Baja 1000 after 1998 looks not so bright as the population increases in Baja, Mexico.
