Article Abstract:

The International Credit Assn celebrates its 75th anniversary in 1987. Its origin as the Retail Credit Men's National Assn (RCMNA) in Spokane, WA in 1912 is described, as well as later changes in name, affiliation, purposes, and practices. Highlights include: (1) merger of the RCMNA with the National Association of Mercantile Agencies in 1927 into the National Retail Credit Assn (NRCA), (2) standardization of credit reporting, (3) anti-trust consent decree of 1933, (4) Lindley S. Crowder appointment in 1934, (5) division in 1935 of the NRCA and National Consumer Credit Reporting Corporation, (6) formation of the Associated Credit Bureaus of America Inc in 1937, (7) the World War II years, (8) creation of Credit Week in 1945, (9) construction of a headquarters in 1950, (10) expansion of NRCA's educational program, (11) initiation of an awards program, and (12) federal full-disclosure legislation.

History of the International Credit Association

Article Abstract:

The history of the International Credit Assn (ICA) is presented for the period 1965-1970, divided into one-year time slots by the presidencies of Association members. Key organizational meetings, events, and studies are described, as well as efforts to support secondary and continuing education. The occasion for providing a comprehensive history of the Association is the organization's seventy-fifth anniversary. The ICA was founded in Spokane, WA on Aug 22, 1912.
