What's new in the collection department of the 90s?
Article Abstract:
Technological advances in electronic office equipment have refined information processing, increasing office efficiency and assisting collection department management. Developments in computer-integrated telephony have enabled digital telephone systems to interface with mainframe computers allowing information to be transmitted without human participation. The advances include automatic number identification, which automatically communicates the telephone numbers of callers; intelligent services digital networks that link telephone systems and computers; and predictive-power-dialing computers that call many accounts an hour, connecting only live voices with a collector.

Previous studies have divided telephone demand into access demand, or demand for telephone lines, and usage demand, or demand for telephone traffic. Access demand has received much attention from researchers while there have been few studies on usage demand. Econometric models of the demand for local, long-distance, national and international toll traffic in Spain by the business sector are presented.
