A bioinformatician's view of the metabolome

Article Abstract:

A collection of whole metabolites as opposed to isolated small molecules is a fast growing field that will help towards understanding cell biology and relating genetic capabilities of an organism to its observed phenotype. An analysis of the experimental data of complete modeling of the interactions of metabolites with other entities in the cell of reaction pathways is essential for prediction of an organism's response to environmental challenges.

When Brachyury meets Smad1: The evolution of bilateral symmetry during gastrulation

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that the protein-protein interaction between Brachyury and Smad1 represents an evolutionary novelty of the Urbilateral is presented. The gain of the N-terminal domain might be selected to spatially modulate the activity of Brachyury, thereby facilitating the establishment of bilateral symmetry during gastrulation movements.

Influenza type A in humans, mammals and birds: determinants of virus virulence, host-range and interspecies transmission

Article Abstract:

Research findings demonstrate that the virulence of influenza virus is determined by its interactions with the host cell, the host organism and population. This host-virus interaction also influences interspecies transmission of viruses. Development of vaccines and prophylactic drugs based on the new develpments is discussed.
