A portable regulatory element directs specific expression of the Caenorhabditis elegans ubiquitin gene ubq-2 in the somatic gonad
Article Abstract:
The study shows that the complexity of the regulatory regions of constitutive or 'house-keeping' genes is related to that of tissue-specific genes. Cloning and sequencing of the ubiquitin-52-amino-acid ribosomal protein fusion gene of Caenorhabditis reveals that normal transcriptional regulation requires enhancer-like elements in the 3' noncoding region. Transgenic analysis indicates that an upstream promoter and a downstream element mediate the expression of ubq-2.

Localized expression of the H-ras proto-oncogene during Ilyanassa development
Article Abstract:
Ilyanassa embryos immunostained with an antibody to the ras protein reveal that the ras gene is not expressed from initial cleavage till the gastrula phase, but is manifested by normal and lobeless embryos when organogenesis occurs. The ras protein is initially synthesized from the third day of development in the normal embryo and from the fifth day in the lobeless embryo. Its expression is localized in mesodermal lineages of normal and lobeless embryos.

Expression of the met/hepatocyte growth factor/scatter factor receptor and itsligand during differentiation of Murine P-19 embryonal carcinoma cells
Article Abstract:
Researchers examined the expression of the met proto-oncogene/hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/scatter factor receptor (SFR), and HGF/SF during differentiation of the pluripotent P19 murine embryonal carcinoma cell line in culture. Their aim was to discover the specific differentiated cell types that expressed the met/HGF/SFR, and to examine the biological purpose of this receptor and its ligand in initial murine development.
